It’s competition time again here at Nature Gift Stores, this time we’re giving away one of our fantastic medium-sized live butterfly kits – just the type of nature project to take on now that spring is here! Now is a perfect time to watch caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies and teach your children about the life cycle of one of the most mesmerizing and fascinating creatures on earth.
Our live butterfly kits are the BEST SELLING items on our website! These are FUN projects and would be the perfect gift for a butterfly or nature lover of any age. Witness the wonder of the butterfly life cycle with these child-and-insect friendly habitats. See the caterpillar’s transition as it grows, changes into a chrysalis, and finally emerges as a Painted Lady butterfly! It takes approximately 3 weeks to go from caterpillar to butterfly and once they have emerged it is absolutely safe to release into the environment.
The live butterfly kits are suitable for children aged 4 and upwards.
Check out our page onScience Projects For Kids using our butterfly kits. Instructions are included with the butterfly hatching kit to keep the butterflies inside for their life cycle. See our FAQ page for most common butterfly kit questions.

I would like for my granddaughter, Alannah to win this butterfly kit. She is 6 years old & is such a nature lover and has been ever since she could barely walk. While other girls are playing with dolls & girly things, she is outdoors learning about nature. She loves reading books about it & experiencing it firsthand on hikes & nature trails. She absolutely loves butterflies. Her bedroom is decorated in butterflies. This would be a dream come true for her!!
I would love this kit for my kids ages 4 and 6. We will be studying butterflys this summer in our homeschool and we will be attending the butterfly festival that our local nature center hosts each year. Both of my kids just love caterpillars and butterflys and this would be an amazing add on for our unit study. kbalman@gmail.com
My kids are amazed at the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. How fun!
My son, Teddy and I planted a butterfly garden for this year and we will be studying it during June while we wait on his baby brother to arrive. This would be perfect to go with all our dill, milkweed and lantana!
I have four daughters that would love this. My 7 yr old is homeschooled and we are getting ready to study insects so this would be perfect for her to see instead of just read about.
My 4 kids would love this kit! My son did it in his preschool class awhile back & his older sisters were so jealous. They love playing outside & they especially love science. This kit would be a great springboard for some enrichment activities over the summer!
My 4.5 yr old daughter would absolutely love this kit. She loves nature and animals, can’t get enough of it and butterflies are one of her favorites!
Our 4 children ages 9-13, would enjoy this hands on butterfly experience, thank you
My daughter Kate is a bug aholic
she Loves going to the Bug Museum any chance she can get! Kate got a gift certificate for her birthday and purchased a tarantula from your store and she loves it! Kate loves to read books with her tarantula hanging out on her shoulder. Kate aspires to be an entomologist when she grows up! It would be wonderful if she could watch the life cycle and metamorphosis of the caterpillar to butterfly. This would make Kate’s while year!
Since my daughter was 3 years old, she has said that when she grows up, she wanted to be an entomologist! That’s right, a 3 years old would actually say the word “entomologist”, let alone, know what it means…trust me, she would get QUITE the stares from friends and family, when they’d hear her say this (most of the time, THEY didn’t even know what that meant!). She’s now nine years old, and still holds to the same career field choice that she has for the past 6 years.
She is an avid bug explorer, absolutely fascinated by them. She would be so lucky to receive this live butterfly kit, and we would be VERY grateful to receive such a gift. We just bought our first home, and as you can imagine, things are now a little more tight than they were before, so it would be amazing to be able to give her something this great. I could only imagine the look on her face on her way to Nature Gifts, not knowing anything about winning one, but just another great trip with her family to the bug museum.
In the end, any one of these posts from people would make a child happy, but I can’t say that I’m not hoping for your selection to be my child.
Thank you for your consideration.
I would like this for my daughters , madisen 9, peytyn 5, and Lillyan aka Lillybug 2, because they not only love nature and learning but they have tought me how to spread my wings and fly in life . They truly are like butterflies
I would love this for my son and daughter. They are really into nature and recently have been asking questions about caterpillars turning into butterflies. This will be a great way for them to learn and see first hand the beauty of nature!
My son is studying insects in his first grade class. I would love to have the chance to do this project with him and maybe even share it with his class! It is so much fun!
My 4-year old twin daughters, Violet and Sage, would LOVE this and, since I told them I would try to get them something like this when I was able, I would LOVE to win it! They recently read The book The Hungry Caterpillar and became fascinated with the whole idea and process… Plus I love to do new projects with them. They are total girls and have always liked butterflies and how pretty they are but now that they’re older they want to learn about them and see them… This would be so perfect! (keeping my fingers crossed) Good luck to everyone and thank you for this opportunity!!
This would be the perfect compliment to our summer unit study on butterflies! We already have our butterfly garden planted and have been enjoying the butterflies that have been fluttering by here lately!
My 5 year old would love this. She is learning about metamorphosis and would love to see it in person.
I would love to win this for my two boys (3&6) they love bugs! This would be a great way to educate them on a life cycle of the butterfly!
My son would love this so much he’s all about learning very intelligent for a three year old and even more observant and oh my goodness does he love bugs especially butterflies!
My son is just over 3 and is really into bug’s right now. He doesn’t like to hurt them but LOVES to collect them, then “relocate” them. His new found favorites, sugar ants and lady bug’s. I would LOVE to see him go crazy over this butterfly “home”!
I love reading the stories and comments here on this page of all the children who love bugs! I can’t wait to see who the lucky winner will be. Congrats whoever you are!
My girls would just love this kit! We recently visited the local Bug Museum and they were fascinated by the butterfly display. I think this would help them understand the actual metamorphosis though. They are only 3 + 4, and they need to see it to understand it, at this age. They are also fascinated how something can change from a crawling creature into a flying creature, and I think this a great opportunity to show them change it really possible in many unfathomable ways.
