Easy to Maintain and Look After
Flytraps require a little extra attention than other carnivorous plants. They need a high humidity environment and plenty of sunlight. Venus Flytrap Terrarium Kit makes sure that these needs of your green pet get fulfilled. It comes with a robust 4.5” diameter terrarium, which has been designed to maintain a comfortable level of humidity for your flytrap. The plastic terrarium also traps enough sunlight to keep the Venus flytrap warm. And, unlike glass terrariums, this boggy habitat doesn’t allow your plant to get burned down.
The ventilated lid of the terrarium allows a fresh draft of air to reach your pet flytrap. This prevents the growth of mildew or other fungi. Sphagnum peat moss helps in creating the same soil conditions that Venus flytraps find in their natural habitat. Flytraps do go dormant during winter when their leaves dry up and go black. But they regrow right back in spring.
Watch It Snap and Trap
Venus flytraps need to devour insects because the soil in which they grow lacks nutrients. They have a snap trap which is triggered when a bug lands on the sensitive hairs inside the trap lobes. Your kit will come with a flytrap having at least three such traps, ready to engulf a gullible insect. You can watch the snap trap in action either by placing your green pet in an area with lots of flies or giving it a treat in the form of frozen flies.
This snap trap is unique to Venus flytraps. Other carnivorous plants use other trap structures to catch their prey. Keep in mind that false triggering of snap traps are harmful to Venus flytraps. Every trap closing requires energy. In order to fend off any accidental triggers, a lid has been provided for the terrarium. When your flytrap outgrows the terrarium you can take the lid off so that its growth isn’t hindered.
Grow It Bigger
Venus Flytrap Terrarium presents an amazing opportunity for those looking to begin their journey into the world of carnivorous plants. Your pet flytrap will be a healthy adult, 2-3 inches tall when it arrives and it will continue to grow to its full length inside the terrarium. Growing flytraps to this size from seeds takes about 3 years. With this kit, you can conveniently skip that waiting period and get a plant that’s ready to trap some tasty victims.
Make sure that you provide enough sunlight to your Venus flytrap and keep watering it. Use rain water, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water to keep the roots of your flytrap healthy and promote its growth. As you care for your green pet, you’ll learn what works best for it, and also start to understand this miracle of nature better.
